Six verifications
- Type the host string yourself and compare character by character. koala vs koala-top is two sellers, one word.
- Read contacts only from the album header. Yishan prints “New whatsapp …, Old whatsapp get banned” — a public channel change you will miss in a screenshot.
- Look for permanence signals: a Feedback album (No.1 Factory has 131 rows), a policies folder, a FAQ “Read Me First”.
- Ask one stock question and time the answer. Real sellers answer about availability; impersonators answer about price.
- Request QC photos for your size before paying. Refusal is the single strongest negative signal.
- Check the payment route. A seller who only accepts a personal transfer with no Weidian/Taobao link and no agent path is a route you cannot dispute.
Risk ladder
| Setup | Risk | Mitigation |
|---|---|---|
| Album + own domain + agent links | Low | Standard QC |
| Album + Weidian/Taobao | Low | Agent-mediated QC |
| Album + chat only, prices in title | Medium | Smaller first order |
| Gated album, no public catalogue | Medium-high | Verify code source, tiny order |
| Contacts from a screenshot only | High | Do not pay; re-verify from the host |
The impersonation pattern to remember
Copycats reuse a real seller’s photos, a near-identical name, and a phone number that is one character different. Every time it has worked, the buyer found the contact outside the album.
If any single check fails, do not negotiate harder - narrow the order. A seller who will not send a photo of the sole, or who answers a stock question three days late, is not necessarily dishonest, but the cost of finding out is your money, not their time. Order one item, pay through a route you can reverse, and let the first parcel answer the questions the chat could not.
