Folder types
- VIP Album
- Photo albums visible only after the access code. Used for new or exclusive lines.
- VIP E-commerce
- Gated listing view tied to the shop modules — the seller’s way of keeping a price list private.
- VIP Timeline
- A chronological gated feed; the closest thing Yupoo offers to a drop calendar.
- VIP Category + E-commerce
- Category tree plus commerce view, gated together.
- Access code
- A short password circulated by the seller in chat, Discord or Weidian; it is not the seller’s WeChat ID.
Sellers gate for three reasons: to keep pricing out of screenshots, to reserve new runs for repeat buyers, and to protect images from being copied by competing stores. The buyer-side cost is that the most useful part of the catalogue becomes unverifiable from the outside, and third-party links rot faster because nobody can confirm the host still resolves to content.
Working with a gated seller
- Get the code from the channel the seller owns (Discord, WhatsApp, Weidian chat), never from a comment thread.
- Ask what is outside the gate. Most gated sellers keep a public sampling album — that is enough to verify identity.
- Do the first order through the Weidian/Taobao link so QC and reversal are handled by an agent, not by goodwill.
- Screenshot the code request and the answer; code changes are the most common cause of “the seller stopped replying”.
When gating is a red flag
If the only public artefacts are a phone number and a promise, and the catalogue is entirely behind a code you were messaged with, that is the structure impersonators rely on. Real sellers keep something public to prove they are the same store as last season.
